Pushing the envelope. Experimenting with sound. Exploring the art of production and songwriting. Meshing the genres, yet appreciating them all. There isn’t one kind of music that has totally influenced Mike Gallagher. Alternative Rock is at the core of his new album “The Edge of the Dream.” He’s three-dimensional: guitarist, keyboardist, and vocalist. A versatile artist educated by everything from books to the Blues. Audiences can hear remnants of country, R&B, and soul to accompany the compilations of sound.
“Traveler” – infused with the strumming of electric guitars and drums, shares the thoughts and emotions of a nervous, yet optimistic artist taking his chances in New York City. There were a hundred smiles/A million frowns upon those faces told me turn around. Mike proclaims, “I was determined to find my way to my dream.” With the nay-sayers and skeptics at arms-reach, this song captures the essence of his struggle. Together the 10 tracks on The Edge of the Dream album chronicle Mike’s journey to finding his voice, honing his craft, and chasing his dream. The stakes are aimed high and his quest for success is a common thread that knits us all universally.
Mike has been enlisted to perform with many of the industry’s most notable performers. This repertoire of artists range from different genres of music: Yolanda Adams, Bebe Winans (gospel), Roy Ayers (jazz), George Clinton (funk), Kindred and the Family Soul (R&B), Carole King (folk), M.C. Lyte, Rhymefest (hip-hop) Rick Nielsen {Cheap Trick}, Jim Peterik {Survivor} (rock). A melting pot of melody, harmony, and acoustic sounds accompanied by the song – the story. Mike Gallagher is the ladle that stirs all these influences and creates a style all his own! While collaborating with this eclectic ensemble of artists, Mike has acquired great depth in his playing style as well as his writing. Songs like “Wake Me” and the title song on his album, "The Edge of the Dream" depict the realization of all Mike ever longed to be.
He carries the legacy of his rocker dad, musical mentors, and all the gifted artists that collaborated with him on this project. To quote a line from the title track - Standing at the edge of a dream/When you’re one step away from reality. "This year it’s finally happening. My journey has direction, and I know where I want to go with my music.” Follow Mike Gallagher on Facebook/MusicMikeG Twitter - @MusicMikeG
